The importance of nutritional support for critically ill patients, e.g. surgical and intensive care patients cannot be overstated. Critical illness is typically associated with a catabolic stress state and increased morbidity and mortality risk. Because many of these patients are unconscious and have multiple-organ dysfunction, including gastro-intestinal dysfunction, optimal nutrition support is a big challenge.
At Danone Nutricia Research, we recognise the importance of optimal nutrition for critically ill patients. We have played an important role in improving patient outcomes by providing state-of-the-art nutritional solutions and the development of nutritional guidelines and recommendations for critically ill patients.
“We bring science to life to help improve patients’ health by means of medical nutrition. I am proud to be part of the research and innovation process for food for special medical purposes leading to better feeding strategies, nutritional recommendations and medical nutrition as integrated part of disease management for critically ill patients.”
