This year, the 39th edition of the ESPEN Congress takes place in Nutricia’s home country, The Netherlands. From September 9th, The Hague will be the place to be for scientists, physicians, dieticians, nutritionists and nurses involved and interested in the field of nutrition and metabolism to meet and discuss cutting-edge science.
Professor Dr. J. Schols, professor of Old Age Medicine, Maastricht University, The Netherlands, member of Special Interest Group (SIG) on Long-term Care (LTC) and SIG on Sarcopenia of EUGMS, will chair the Nutricia symposium entitled “Improving Outcomes in Older Patients, the Role of Medical Nutrition”.
Three distinguished experts will address the value of medical nutrition for the ageing patient:
• Professor Dr. J. Bauer, Chair for Geriatric Medicine at the Ruprecht Karls University of Heidelberg and Director of the Agaplesion Bethanien Hospital Heidelberg, Germany will discuss the challenges of the ageing population and the important role of nutrition in ageing persons.
• Dr. R. Stratton is Medical Director for Nutricia Advanced Medical Nutrition for the UK and Ireland and affiliated to the University of Southampton, where she is one of the leading researchers in the field of malnutrition and nutritional support. She will talk about new insights in the management of disease-related malnutrition in older community dwelling patients. Additionally, she will focus on the effect of medical nutrition as part of the management of disease-related malnutrition on costs and quality of life.
• Dr. E. Cereda, researcher and physician in the field of nutrition and dietetics at the Fondazione IRCCS Policlinico San Matteo in Pavia, Italy, will present about the value of specialized nutrition in patients with pressure ulcers and its effect on the costs of PU treatment and wound healing.
The Nutricia Symposium takes place in King Willem Alexander at the World Forum on Sunday 10 September between 18.00 and 19.30. Access is open to all registered attendees of ESPEN.
